In India, you will find numerous places to trek. People usually go trekking to find peace and a home away from home. Trekking across scenic hills and valleys is undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that one will never forget!

Many individuals travel to remote areas in other countries to fulfill their trekking dreams, but why venture outside when India has some of the most captivating trekking destinations?

One must come to India and visit these absolute wonders, especially in the Himalayan region. The high-altitude plateaus, snowy massifs, alpine forests, steaming jungles, and other landscapes can be found in twelve states around the Himalayan foothills.

In this blog, we've reviewed some of the best trekking places in India, how to get there, and some useful tips and measures to take while you are there.

Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is one of the most exciting treks. At 8586 meters, Kanchenjunga stands as the third-highest peak in the world, proudly displaying its splendor. You can take in the magnificent views spanning from Frey Peak to Kabru Peak while initiating this hike. It starts at Yuksom, a quiet village in West Sikkim, and lasts for eight days.

You can enjoy breathtaking views of the Rathong River, magnificent orchids, and forests of evergreen ferns while trekking.

Best time to visit: Mid-March – May, Mid-September – November

Tips: Get the necessary permits and hire a licensed guide who can take you to the best places.

  1. Chadar Trek, Ladakh

Experience the thrill of walking on ice as you ascend 14,000 feet above sea level on the Chadar Trek. Discover Tsomo and learn about the way of life of the Ladakhi people as you engage with those who live in the highlands.

Chadar means blanket, and the frozen river acts as a blanket here; hence, the trek is named Chadar Trek. Spring water keeps the frost layer from fully drowning the river, which still has rapids in certain areas. The walk involves trudging down the Chadar, which breaks and changes color every few hours on the river!

The view, the ambiance, the frozen river, the caverns, the unique campsites, the sleds, and the constantly shifting Chadar are all remarkable attractions to this place.

Best time to visit: Mid-January – February

Tips: Keep your luggage minimal and carry the basic medications. Maintain the ecological balance and avoid using plastic bags. Bring warm clothes and the right shoes.

  1. Hampta Pass Trek, Himachal Pradesh

Hampta Pass Trek is ideal for beginners. This beautiful location is in Himachal Pradesh and is known for its lush valleys that are nestled between snow-capped mountains and are filled with a variety of flora and wildlife!

It is a high-altitude trek of 14,000 feet with lots of exciting experiences. It will take you almost days to trek through the vibrant and beautiful scenery, and once you reach the Spiti Valley, you will be in for a surprise. Admire the view of Chandrataal Lake, formed like a half-moon, reflecting the shifting colors of the sky and the bleak mountains.

Kashmir must be included in our list of beautiful trekking destinations! A walk to the Kashmir Great Lakes is an adventurous activity not to be missed if trekking is your top pick. The hike is for nine days and not suitable for beginners, but the experience will be worthwhile.

Amid the insanity of the world, it's like a calming symphony. The unusual and sublime scenery of Kashmir, known as the "heaven on Earth," will enchant and captivate your soul. The sight of gently rolling meadows covered in greenery, the lush hues of the trees, the alpine lakes, and the serene mountains is truly breathtaking and should be treasured forever.

Markha Valley is situated within the renowned Hemis National Park, home to the world’s biggest population of snow leopards. Trekkers might not see the species, but you might see the Zanskar Ranges, rugged canyons, secluded Tibetan Buddhist communities, high passes to climb, hillsides flecked with green and purple from minerals in the rocks, and some difficult river crossings. From here, the trail climbs to the highest point of the trek, Kongmaru La, offering magnificent views of the K2 and Karakoram.
