BCCI Proposes Stricter Guidelines, Including Limited Stay for Players' Families

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering introducing strict rules in light of India's dismal 2024–25 Test campaign. Until now, players' families, especially their wives, have had discretion over their extended tours, but the Indian board is about to implement some significant changes.

According to a source, the BCCI believes that players who spend much time with their families exhibit poorer performances on international trips. As a result, the board wishes to reimpose a regulation in place before 2019 that restricted the amount of time families may spend with players.

The BCCI will only permit families, especially wives, to stay with players for two weeks on a 45-day trip. It would also be mandatory for all players to ride the team bus with the rest of the squad. The board will further discourage solo travel.

Anushka Sharma, Ritika Sajdeh, and Athiya Shetty may no longer be able to go with their husbands on entire tours. They are often seen on tour with their husband.

Additionally, the BCCI has strengthened its grip on manager Gaurav Arora and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir's manager would not be permitted to remain in the team hotel or sit in the VIP box at stadiums. He would not be permitted to ride in the team bus or the bus behind it.

According to reports, while traveling if the players' bags weigh more than 150 kg, BCCI will not cover the cost. Players should pay it themselves.

These issues were allegedly discussed during a meeting between India's head coach Gautam Gambhir, selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar, and Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma. The meeting also included the recently appointed secretary and treasurer.

It was also proposed that the team's support staff should only be employed for a maximum of three years. Because several support staff members have been with the club for a long time, the BCCI authorities believe that the performances have stagnated.
