Summary: The Malayalam film industry is thriving, making $1 million at the worldwide box office, leaving other film industries behind.

While major film industries in India, like Bollywood, Telugu, and Tamil, are suffering from a disturbing trend of films failing at the box office despite star-studded casts and large budgets, the Malayalam film business is prospering, generating hundreds of crores in successive hits.

While other industries struggle to get back on their feet after collapsing, the Malayalam cinema industry has already produced many blockbusters and superhits, apparently surpassing the Rs 1,000 crore mark at the international box office.

Surprisingly, three films alone generated almost 55% of the overall gross: Manjummel Boys, Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life), and Aavesham garnered Rs 240.94 crore, Rs 157.44 crore, and Rs 153.52 crore, respectively, according to industry analyst Sacnilk.

Mathrubhumi stated before the release of director Vipin Das' Guruvayoorambala Nadayil, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Basil Joseph, Nikhila Vimal, and Anaswara Rajan in prominent parts, that Malayalam cinema's cumulative collection from January to April 2024 had surpassed Rs 985 crore.

Combining this with Sacnilk's release that Guruvayoorambalam Nadayil's global revenue has surpassed Rs 30 crore, the industry's entire global gross has surpassed Rs 1,000 crore, making 2024 a turning point for the Malayalam industry.

So far, Malayalam cinema has had a wonderful year, and it only keeps getting better. Earlier Malayalaam films only had access to a few screens in Kerala, some in India, and overseas, but that has changed significantly with some hard-hitting thriller films like Manjummel Boys and the horror film Bamayugam. Manjummel Boys is the first Malayalam movie to collect ₹200 crore and is still counting.
