During his Mann Ki Baat radio show, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored the late actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR). PM Modi's sincere tribute to ANR, one of the foundations of Telugu film, was appreciated by his actor-wife Sobhita Dhulipala, son and actor Nagarjuna, and grandson Naga Chaitanya. The Akkineni family recently held many activities to commemorate ANR's centennial year.

Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita also shared the clip on their Social Media handles showing gratitude towards the act. They wrote, “Thank you, Shri Modi ji, for your wonderful words about Akkineni Nageswara Rao Garu’s artistic merit and his efforts that have played a key role in shaping the brilliant Telugu film industry as we know it today. It is truly special coming from a stalwart like you! Immensely grateful."

PM Modi had said, “Raj Kapoor ji introduced the world to India’s soft power through films. Mohammad Rafi Sahab’s magical voice continues to captivate the younger generation even today. Akkineni Nageswara Rao Garu elevated Telugu cinema, showcasing Indian traditions and values. Tapan Sinha ji’s films offered new societal perspectives while promoting social consciousness and national unity,” remembering the legendary personalities.

He claimed that these iconic figures serve as an inspiration to the whole film industry and that Indian cinema has gained international acclaim thanks to their unwavering commitment and everlasting creativity.

Actor and producer Akkineni Nageswara Rao, popularly known as ANR, is well known for his Telugu film productions. Throughout his more than 70-year career, he starred in several films, including Vipra Narayana, Tenali Ramakrishna, Mahakavi Kalidasu, and Bhakta Tukaram.

For his enormous contributions to art and film, the Indian government awarded him the Padma Vibhushan in 2011, the Padma Bhushan in 1988, and the Padma Shri in 1968.
