Salaar Dominates! Dunki's Day 2 Box Office Struggle: Prabhas Reigns as Shah Rukh Lags at Rs 50 Crore

After a slow start on Thursday, Dunki's box office revenue declined further on its second day of release. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer earned Rs 20.50 crore on Friday, according to industry researcher Sacnilk. With this, the domestic net collection of the film stands at Rs 49.7 crore.

The film's two-day box office collection in India is far below the opening records of SRK's previous two releases. Pathaan opened with Rs 57 crore and Jawan earned Rs 75 crore on the first day. 'Dunki' will be Shah Rukh's third release this year.

Dunki's drastic drop in performance can also be attributed to Prabhas' Salaar release. The Prashant Neel directorial film celebrated its biggest release ever on Friday, grossing Rs 95 crore in India.

On Friday, Dunki recorded an overall occupancy rate of 31.22%. The film was screened 988 times in Delhi NCR region with occupancy rate of 33% and in Mumbai around 700 times with occupancy rate of 46%.

According to producer Red Chillies Entertainment, the film's opening day worldwide box office gross was 58 crore rupees. It remains to be seen whether the movie will be able to pick up its pace over the weekend and whether overseas markets will be able to capture a significant market share during the Christmas season.

Apart from SRK, Dunki also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover. The film is based on a script written by Hirani in collaboration with Abhijat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon.

Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki may have received a mixed response from critics but that does not affect its performance. In fact, the film is witnessing a clash with Prabhas's Salaar' which released today. “Dunki” got off to a good start at the box office. Despite being in the comedy genre, Shah Rukh Khan was able to collect a box office revenue of 29.20 crores. The decline in pre-order revenue today was also minimal, but this was enough to signal that brighter days are ahead.

Given that Dunki clashed with Salaar at the box office, ratings were bound to take a hit. Nevertheless, Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani's film brought in impressive revenues.
