Summary: Nag Ashwin spoke about his upcoming film Kalki 2898 AD starring Prabhas and revealed its connection with Mahabharat.

Recently in an Synapse 2024 event at Gurgaon, attended by the director Nag Ashwin and Rana Duggabati (actor-producer). During the event Nag Ashwin spilled some tea on his upcoming movie Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas as the main lead. The movie also has Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hassan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles as well.

Surprisingly the film has a connection with the popular Mahabharat. When asked about the timeline of events that will take place in Kalki 2898 AD, Nag Ashwin said, “The film starts with Mahabharat and ends in 2898 AD. It spans 6000 years in time. We tried to create worlds, imagining what they would be like while still keeping it Indian, and not make it look like Blade Runner. 6000 years behind 2898 AD is 3102 BC, when the last avatar of Krishna is believed to have passed.”

He also talked about the use of AI in making the film. OpenAI Sora is a popular AI making rounds in the movie industry. You can develop scenes, and the whole universe with the help of AI. Nag Ashwin was asked if he has taken help from AI for making the films, to which he replied that he hasn’t yet used AI, he may try it soon. His film is set to release on May 9, 2024."

He further said, “We had to build so many sets, designs, vehicles for this film. It was a lot of process to ideate, conceptualize, build it, prototype, machinery, aging. If I had used Sora, the process would have been different. It would only be a prompt and I wouldn’t need to go for VFX. I also think that, in the process of this struggle, will some magic happen? Because we take months to perfect things, in the process something new might happen. If it’s as easy as a prompt, maybe as a creator you are missing something”
