Exploring movies to enjoy with your siblings and cousins this year? We’ve compiled a selection of melodramatic as well as realistic Bollywood films for you.

Karan Johar has famously stated that family love is paramount. Given Bollywood’s deep connection with emotions, enjoying Hindi films with your siblings and relatives on Rakshabandhan is an excellent way to relax. Raksha Bandhan is observed on Wednesday and Thursday in certain parts of India. You’ll be deeply moved by the on-screen portrayals of actors who go to great lengths for their film siblings, such as Dev Anand’s affection for Zeenat Aman, his on-screen sister, or the contemporary display of Akshay Kumar’s deep affection for his four sisters.

Helmed by Dev Anand, “Hare Ram Hare Krishna” follows the journey of Prashant (played by Dev Anand) as he embarks on a quest to find his sister (Zeenat Aman). The movie, released in 1971, also tackled the pressing issue of drug abuse. While conveying an anti-drug message, the film also underscored the significance of familial connections. Dev Anand took on multiple roles as the producer, writer, and director of the film. The cast included Mumtaz, Rajendra Nath, Prem Chopra, Mehmood, and Iftekhar in prominent roles. The film clinched two Filmfare awards that year- Best Supporting Actress for Zeenat Aman and Best Female Playback Singer for Asha Bhosale. The evergreen song “Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka Sabka Kehna Hai” from the movie has become a Rakshabandhan classic over time.

Satte Pe Satta

Among Amitabh Bachchan's early films, "Satte Pe Satta" narrated the tale of seven siblings and their unwavering unity through moments of mirth, happiness, and challenges. The movie showcased Sachin Pilgaonkar, Sudhir, Shakti Kapoor, Kanwarjit Paintal, and Kanwaljit Singh as Amitabh's younger brothers, while Hema Malini portrayed his spouse.

Dhanak

Nagesh Kukunoor's 2015 movie revolves around the bond shared by two young kids. The heartwarming story follows a sister's journey through the desert to visit an eye doctor for her brother. This film was honored with the National Film Award for Best Children's Film in that particular year.

Fiza

Taking place against the backdrop of the turbulent 1990s Kashmir, "Fiza" delved into the realm of crime and suspense, while narrating the tale of a woman (Karishma Kapoor) embarking on a quest to locate her brother (Hrithik Roshan), only to uncover his transformation into a terrorist. The 2000 movie intricately follows their intertwined lives as he reunites with the family, oscillates back to his extremist group, and ultimately becomes their target. Fiza's resolute determination to reunite with her brother sends shivers down the spine. Directed by Khalid Mohammed, the film also showcased Jaya Bachchan in the role of Hrithik's mother.

Raksha Bandhan

Addressing the societal issues of dowry and body-shaming, "Raksha Bandhan," led by Akshay Kumar, employed a brother's affection for his sisters as the conduit for its message. Released in 2022, the film's narrative was crafted by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon, under the direction of Aanand L. Rai. Sahejmeen Kaur, Sadia Khateeb, Deepika Khanna, and Smrithi Srikanth brought to life Akshay's sisters, while Bhumi Pednekar assumed the role of the romantic interest.

Sarbjit

While often referred to as a Randeep Hooda film, "Sarbjit" truly revolves around the journey of Dalbir (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) as she endeavors to locate her brother Sarbjit (Randeep). Unveiled in 2016, the movie vividly portrayed the real-life chronicle of Dalbir and Sarbjit, who engaged in a protracted struggle before securing the release of Sarbjit from incarceration in Pakistan.
